Leadership through Sports & Adventure
Program Overview: This unique study abroad program blends athletic adventure with leadership development and public speaking mastery, empowering high school students to grow as confident communicators and resilient leaders—on and off the field. Through a powerful mix of physical challenges, reflective workshops, and a high-stakes final simulation, students will discover how the mindset of an athlete mirrors that of an effective leader.
Final Project: Over the course of the program, students will create a full team profile including strategy, lineup, and basic financials to present to a board who are interested in acquiring their team. On the day of the final simulation, each team will be hit with a surprise management crisis — there has been a scandal and PR disaster, leading to the board expressing concerns about the acquisition of their sports team. Groups will have one hour to prepare a full response, including a press release, media statement, and why they should still be acquired based on the team strategy that they worked on throughout the program. They will then present their team strategy, after which a panel of “boardroom directors” will ask each student one question about the crisis and their role in handling it. This simulation brings together all the core skills students have practiced over the week(s): negotiation, persuasion, public speaking, problem-solving, and adaptability under pressure.
