Exploring Jordan: Refugees
Program Overview: This transformative study abroad experience invites high school students to explore the rich history, culture, and humanitarian landscape of Jordan, from the ancient ruins of Petra to the vibrant refugee communities shaping the nation today. Through visits to iconic sites like Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo, and Jerash, students will gain cultural context and a deeper appreciation for Jordan’s heritage. At the heart of the program is meaningful, respectful engagement with refugee communities and local NGOs—students will visit refugee camps, meet with NGO leaders, and explore the themes of resilience, displacement, and identity through real-life stories. This immersive journey challenges students to reflect on global responsibility and the power of storytelling to inspire empathy and change.
Final Project: Humanizing Refugee Stories: Group will create a social media page of their choice, inspired by "Humans of New York" Instagram page, to help spread the stories of refugees in a way that is more meaningful than what is on the news. Students will be able to choose from creating their platform on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and a Website.
